An Atlanta, Georgia born and reared thespian, writer, director, and holistic drama instructor, SHARISA WHATLEY, has been active in the Atlanta theater community for over 10 years. Learning under the direction of Freddie Hendricks she became a standout member in the powerful theater troupe The Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA). Simultaneously she mentored inner city youth with the Youth Empowerment Summer Program sponsored by the Coca Cola Company. She went on to become a drama instructor for such reputable companies as Camp Best Friends, Anointed Gifts International Performing Arts School (AGI), Unity Network and Counseling Center (UNCC) and the Parks and Recreation division for the cities of Atlanta and East Point. She completed a brief stint as an assistant drama instructor in Atlanta’s own Tony award winning regional theater the Alliance Theatre.
Some of her most celebrated work has been with the St. Louis Black Rep Theater and Ron Himes, where under his direction Sharisa received Kelvin Kline awards for her riveting performances. In her quest to continue to explore the worldwide realm of theatre and possibilities, she performed in Amsterdam and Rotterdam with prominent European theater companies. Sharisa was invited as a featured performer to the Windybrow Arts Festival in South Africa where she was welcomed and appreciated with standing ovations and requests for encore performances. Sharisa is a blossoming playwright, author, and screenwriter. Her first children's theatre piece, Jeremy and the Lie (written in 2006), has been produced nationally. Currently Sharisa writes for the hillarious all female comedy web-series LAUGHperiod.
